Founded in 1952, Inner Mongolia Normal University is one of the key universities in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. IMNU is a comprehensive normal university with characteristic features of both teacher and ethnic education.

There are 95 subjects covering 10 disciplines in undergraduate programs, 8 first-level disciplines for doctoral degree, 1 post-doctoral research station, 27 first-level disciplines for master’s degree, and 11 professional master’s degree programs.

There are currently more than 300,00 full-time students. Over 270,000 graduates excelling at different fields have been successfully cultivated. IMNU is focusing on construction of “Double First-Class” project, keeping on promoting international cooperation. The Chinese Government Scholarship program is designed to finance the study of talented international students in China, with excellent academic background, outstanding professional competence, and great development potentials. IMNU will be devoted to cultivating high-level international talents, taking full advantages of discipline.

I. Scholarship Categories and Major

Master program: 3 years.

Doctoral program: 3-4 years.

Please notice:

Applicants can apply for one year of remedial Chinese language study before entering the major study (only for Chinese-taught majors).

II. Scholarship Coverage

3. Living stipend: CNY 3,000 per month for master’s degree students, and CNY 3,500 per month for Doctoral students

III. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be citizens of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Requirements of age, education, and language proficiency

(1) Be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s degree programs；

(2) Be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctorate programs;

(3) Have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctorate programs; (HSK Certificate is not necessary if the applicant previously gains Chinese-taught degree in a Chinese university.)

3. Applicants should be international students outside China in principle, yet outstanding fresh graduates with bachelor degree and master’s degree who are studying in China can also apply for the program.

IV. Application Documents

1. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form (with the applicant’s signature).

2. Passport front page (of validity later than September 2022). If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement, please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.

3. Diploma and certificate of highest education (notarized photocopy). An applicant who is a current university student should submit the certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by the attending university.

4. Academic transcripts (official transcripts for all levels of education from undergraduate) . Academic transcripts from the first to the last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) should be provided. These transcripts should be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. Transcripts can be in Chinese or English, and they must be attached with notarized English translation if they are in foreign languages other than English.

5. Certificate of language proficiency. Applicants for Chinese-taught majors must submit valid HSK Level 4 transcripts (within validity).

6. Proposal/Plan for studying in China (focus of material review). It should be written in Chinese or English language (no less than 1000 words). The proposal of a doctoral student should be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.  

7.  Two letters of recommendation. Recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors should be submitted. The content should include the applicant's study objectives in China, the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad, as well as the evaluation of the applicant's comprehensive ability and future development. It can only be written in Chinese or English.

8. Personal works. To apply for majors related to art or design, applicants should submit their own works through “Works/Other Supporting Documents” in the system. Applicants can also provide this type of materials (such as videos, paintings) to the applied universities directly in other ways as required. Awards and proof of academic competence (if any).

9. A photocopy of Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (the original copy can be kept by the applicant. The form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine Department and should be filled out in English). The physical examinations should strictly cover all the items listed in Physical Examination Form for Foreigners. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The examination results are valid only for 6 months.

10. Certificate of no criminal record. Applicants have to submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security authorities. Supporting documents should be issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

11. Acceptance letter by the supervisor from Inner Mongolia Normal University. Written in Chinese or English. This document is not a must, but will be regarded as one of the priorities for CSG selection.

1. All application documents should be in Chinese or English. Documents not in Chinese or English should be notarized and translated into Chinese or English.

2. Uploaded supporting documents should be clear, authentic, and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants should bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

3. Application documents will NOT be returned regardless of admission status.

V. Application Procedure

1. Login to http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn to complete the online registration. Use the registered user name and password to log onto for application. IMNU’s institution code is 10135, and the program category is B.

2. Fill in Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form online, then print and sign the name.

3. Applicants are encouraged to contact supervisors from IMNU to get recommendation letter or acceptance letter (applicants with acceptance letter from the supervisor of IMNU will be given priority to enrollment).

4. After the applicant's application is submitted, IMNU will conduct the application material review and pre-admission evaluation, and send an email to the short-listed students for the result of scholarship evaluation. Applicants are requested to pay close attention to the email notification and keep in constant communication.

5. IMNU will submit the application materials of pre-admission applicants to the China Scholarship Council (CSC).

6. CSC will finally confirm the final admission result, then IMNU will send the admission notices and relevant documents (JW201) to the applicants.

VI. Note

1. Chinese Government Scholarship awardees are not allowed to accept any other scholarships (except one-time bonuses) sponsored by Chinese governments at all levels, as well as the admission colleges and universities at the same time. Otherwise, the Chinese Government Scholarship’s qualification will be cancelled and students must refund the received scholarship funding. For those who deliberately conceal their funding, the scholarship qualification will be cancelled and students are not allowed to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship within three years.

2. Applicants are not suggested to apply for IMNU if they have applied for other colleges or universities in Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS).

3. Scholarship students are not allowed to change their major, learning duration, and instructional languages after admission.

4. Scholarship qualification will be revoked if the applicant who is a current university student fails to obtain the appropriate certificate or provide qualified physical examination report.

5. Scholarship students have to take an annual evaluation, the result of which will decide whether scholarship qualification will be continued, suspended, or cancelled in the following year.

6. Students should complete the registration procedures on the designated date by IMNU, and provide materials including Admission Notice, JW201 Visa Application Form, Foreigner Physical Examination Form, original copy of diploma and certificate of highest education (Original copy not in Chinese or English should be notarized and translated into Chinese or English). The students will be disqualified if they fail in re-evaluation after registration.

7. Registration arrangement in the university for overseas students will be further notified according to the border restrictions in China.

8. Application documents will NOT be returned regardless of admission status.
